6. Anna Dalla Valle, Researcher, Research Interests:
Research interests are centered on the discipline of technological and environmental design, with a focus on advancing sustainability in the built environment through a systematic adoption of life cycle thinking across all phases of the building process. At the heart is the application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as a core methodology to evaluate in the most scientific way possible and minimize the environmental impacts, at multiple scales, with a long-term perspective. Particular attention is devoted to the development of life cycle design from the early project stages–such as resource-efficient design, reversible construction, layered systems, and out-of-waste solutions–through to the production phase, prioritizing the use of recycled, local, and renewable materials. In the construction phase, the role of offsite technologies and efficient site management is investigated for limiting waste and optimizing timelines. During the use phase, emphasis is placed on flexibility, planned maintenance, resources optimization, and user engagement to enhance building performance over time. End-of-life scenarios, including design for disassembly, selective demolition, pre-demolition audits, and materials recovery pathways for closed loop-practices, are explored to support circularity and minimize material loss. By bridging tangible and intangible technologies, the research activities contribute to shaping innovative architectural practices, able of balancing environmental responsibility, technical feasibility, and cultural significance, for responding effectively to contemporary challenges such as decarbonization, resource optimization, and urban regeneration.
7. Salvatore Viscuso, Researcher, Research Interests:
Technological Design; Construction and Management; End-of- Life Design.
